The Black Experience II class and RHS Library’s Read Woke club are sponsoring the African American Read-In for the third year in a row.

“The first year we read When They Call You a Terrorist: a Black Lives Matter Memoir,” explained Ms. Flaherty. “Last year we read How To Be An Antiracist, and this year we are reading Punching the Air.”

Punching the Air is an acclaimed novel in verse written by Ibi Zoboi and Yusef Salaam of the Exonerated Five. “This year’s book is about a boy who uses his creative mind to overcome racism and the freedom of art to overcome his incarceration,” says Ms. Flaherty.

Staff and students can join the Read-In by picking up a copy of Punching the Air in the library or on the ebook site SORA. The Read-In has four remaining dates: February 9th or 10th and February 16th or 17th. All of the zoom meetings are during third period, and anyone interested can join on their asynchronous days.
