Canned food drive begins

The canned food drive has officially begun! Students can drop off items in their graduating class’s bin, located in the RHS atrium.

They can bring in any non-perishable food items, as well as hygiene products like tissues and soap. The drive is being run by the Leadership Retreat Planning Committee and Student Council. All collected items will be donated to Kent Social Services.

This year, there will be a competition to see which graduating class can bring in the most cans. There will be a prize for the winning class, but the Leadership Retreat PC hasn’t finalized what it will be yet.

“Our original idea is Chick-fil-A gift certificates, but we are still waiting to hear back on those,” explained senior Hava Bailey, the PC member who is in charge of the drive.

Initially, the canned food drive was going to end on December 18th. But when the school closed for a couple of weeks, PC and StuCo had to make some adjustments. The drive is now up and running again for the month of January.

For now, students are encouraged to drop off as many items as they can to support a good cause and compete to win a fun prize for their class.
