Horror returned to screens in January 2022 with the highly anticipated release of Scream (2022). The fifth movie in the franchise, this installment follows new protagonists Sam and Tara Carpenter, played by Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega respectively, as the town of Woodsboro is attacked by another Ghostface twenty five years after the events of the first Scream film.

Critic reviews for the film are in, and it is clear this installment has defied the trend of notoriously lackluster horror sequels. Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes, the movie “finds the franchise working harder than ever to maintain its meta edge — and succeeding surprisingly often.” Exploring themes of sisterhood and family, while humorously engaging with the pitfalls of the genre, this Scream manages to delicately balance its scare factor and social commentary.

Making a return to this film are two of America’s biggest Scream Queens, Neve Campbell as Sidney Prescott and Courteney Cox as Gale Weathers. The duo, featured in every Scream film to date, continue to shine as they return to Woodsboro once again, taking on the nightmare they’ve desperately been trying to outlive.

Another element drawing fans to theaters is actor and singer Dylan Minnette, known for his leading role in 13 Reasons Why and as frontman for the band Wallows. A fan of Minnette and Scream moviegoer Cherilyn Kowalski states “Scream was a really good movie and Dylan Minnette killed his role, literally.” Will Minnette survive all the twists and turns this movie presents? Is he behind that Ghostface mask? Find out by supporting your local Kent Plaza Cinemas, which has showings of the film every day for weeks to come!
