RHS Students React to the New Marvel Movie, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings
September 10, 2021
A new Marvel movie has hit theaters and the results are in . . . fans love it!
Shattering the Labor Day Box Office Record with $83.5 million dollars during the opening holiday weekend and with a 98% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings has proven to stand up to Marvel’s standards.
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings follows Shang-Chi (Simu Liu) as he is confronted with his past and drawn into the organization of the Ten Rings. Joined by his sister Xialing (Meng’er Zhang) and best friend Katy (Awkwafina) Shang-Chi must face his father (Tony Chiu-Wai Leung) who runs the Ten Rings organization and holds the Ten Rings.
Shang-Chi is not only breaking records, but is also the first stand-alone Marvel movie with an Asian American as the lead character.
Many students at Roosevelt agree with the ratings, including myself.
“Overall, I really liked it,” said senior Isabella Rodriguez. “I liked the story, the special effects, and the martial arts choreography.”
Rodriguez also added that they, “thought it was really nice to see an almost all Asian cast for a Marvel movie.” They also thought it was nice to see a movie with so many people of color.
“It was actually EPIC,” junior Yulan Wang said. “The fight scenes were so pretty.”
Spoilers ahead for anyone who hasn’t seen the movie yet.
It has been confirmed that the Ten Rings will return. We left off with Xialing as the leader of the Ten Rings organization, and many fans have theories about where the story is going.
Wang stated that she thinks the Ten Rings organization is “going to be bad because something just felt off about Shang-Chi’s sister.”
Rodriguez is excited to see how Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is going to connect to future MCU projects.
“I think the Ten Rings will eventually connect to the Eternals . . . or to some multiverse thing like they are doing with Loki and the upcoming Doctor Strange movie,” states Rodriguez. They also added that “phase 4 is looking promising so far”.
Whatever is next for the Ten Rings or Marvel’s phase four, it’s clear that people are excited for what’s to come. You can see Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings in theaters now.
